FINAL THOUGHTS...

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.'” – Eleanor Roosevelt When I began this program a year ago, I jumped in with both feet.   I had wanted this for a very long time, and it was almost as if I had been given a “do-over.”     All I knew was that life had recently thrown me several nasty curveballs, and I felt that going back to graduate school after 15 years was the best way to deal with them.   The thought of graduation, over a year away, seemed forever in the distance, and I had no real plans or ideas of where I was headed or what I wanted to do afterward.   Now, I am one term and one class away from graduation (ten weeks), and I am feeling more terrified than ever.   In essence, I am starting over mid-life and it scares me.   While I believe I finally determined what I would love to do

ALL ABOUT ME

Hello Fellow Bloggers! Thanks for Finding Me!

My name is Becci and I am I pursuing my Master's degree in Strategic Communications from Troy University. I hold a BSBA with a Major in Marketing. I have always been the type of person that is interested in what makes people "tick", or why they buy and do the things they do. That being said, I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Even though I have lived in the south for the past 15 years, I still do not consider myself a southerner. I will always bleed Husker Red!

This blog will be about Leadership and their use of communication. I also plan to assess the differences in medias and their effectiveness. Why do some ideas succeed and others fail? Is it timing, culture, money or just a dumb idea/product? Being that I am a Gen-X Baby, I find social media both fascinating and frustrating at the same time. Throughout this process, I would like to share with you some of my findings this term regarding the changes I have found most interesting in social media, and communication in general. When I graduated 15 years ago from college, Facebook was not even around yet. We had just started using myspace.com. YouTube? Not invented yet. Instragram? Not even close! Do you see where I am going with this?

I will be posting to this blog weekly, so check back for regular updates, new information and insightful words of wisdom. Please feel free to enlighten me or leave a comment. I value all opinions as sometimes it gives me a chance to see topics in a way I had never thought of before. I never judge a person based on their ideas or opinions. Maybe we can all learn something.

If there is one thing I know, it is people. The first thing I look at when I meet a person is their shoes. The second is their teeth/smile. You can tell a lot about a person by both of these things. When you are working face-to-face with a new boss, or walking into a retail store, or at a conference for work, it is easy to spot who is who. But with the emergence of social media, its not as easy and everyone is an expert now. So I am going to take my knowledge and expertise of people and combine it with the new information about communication strategies from this class and this program, to finally figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
